Although working in oils at that time, in the recent past she was introduced to watercolors by a friend and fellow artist and was interested in learning how to work in this medium. She has been attending my studio classes for the last year and recently had her first, very successful One-Woman Show in New Buffalo, Michigan selling many pieces.

Fredi began showing her work in this gallery in February 2014. From the gallery owner she learned that the colors and airy quality in her work appealed to many viewers. Her pieces were purchased as gifts or chosen for that “perfect spot” in someone’s home.

Because of this interest, the owner asked if she would consider holding a show which would entail providing at least eight new paintings specifically for the event. The artwork was showcased on the primary wall of the gallery. Champagne and homemade chocolates were provided to guests. Six paintings sold as a result of this show.

This show was titled “Around the Bend” and was a “collection of watercolors inspired by a quiet beauty found while meandering down country roads.”

Because of her love of the outdoors, many of Fredi’s paintings include rustic farms, summer landscapes and flower gardens in bloom. Reference photos come from her own back yard or farm stands, lakes and parks in rural Indiana and Michigan.

Recently Fredi has been working on commissioned pieces with subject matter as eclectic as public libraries and dairy cows. She is also in conversations with a restaurant in Mishawaka, Indiana to show pieces there.

You can reach Fredi at FrediKolted@hotmail.com.

Student wins best of show

http://www.dalepopovich.com/2014-popovich-field-journal/student-wins-best-of-show

http://www.dalepopovich.com/2014-popovich-field-journal/student-wins-best-of-show#comments

Uncategorized

© Glendalyn Doom Specht – Lees Ferry: The Start of an Adventure "My most influential instructors have been Dale Popovich, watercolorist and Jon McDonald, Illustration and Medical Illustration. The Richeson75 Competitions are meant to offer a venue in which established and emerging artists may show their latest, best work to a wide and appreciative audience. The 75 finalists for each regular contest will exhibit their work in our beautiful Richeson Gallery and in the Online exhibit. The newly created Richeson75 ONLINE competitions also reach a wide audience with Online exhibits of the 75 finalists' work. All Richeson75 competitions are capped off with the publication of a collectible, limited edition full-color, hardcover exhibit book: These books include work of the finalists, and also feature other meritorious entries from the competition. Richeson's underwrites large cash prizes for Best-In-Show and generous prizes of Richeson art studio furniture and materials for each contest cycle.
