Here's what You get in this Bundle

Watercolor is a versatile painting medium for a wide range of expression from representational paintings to loose and fluid abstracts. All three courses are landscapes. Dale tells his studio students to start with landscapes, because nature is forgiving and an excellent learning tool. If your placement of a branch on a tree and it is a little off most likely no one will notice. But if you are painting a portrait and don’t get the proportions spot on well, you will have a less than desirable result. Adding to the mix you are learning a new medium – working with wet-on-wet and dry-on-wet techniques, handling your brushes and learning timing. Portraits, animals and flowers will come in due time. Painting landscapes helps quickly build your confidence.

Learn the Basic Principles of Watercolor
Dale walks through the essential information regarding brushes, paints, papers, and additional supplies. From there he will take you through the three phases of painting a watercolor as a Paint-Along. You will watch the video and then recreate what he did on the video. This subject is a rural autumn scene in Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We recommend you start with this course.

Learn How to Paint in Watercolor
An Alaskan Farmstead Landscape Paint-Along
As in all Dale’s courses he will have you start to think about your painting before you apply a single brush stroke. Throughout this course he will share his personal Artist’s Notes. He will discuss The Four Basic Principles of Painting which is key for a successful watercolor painting. This course is done as a Paint-Along. He will introduction you to aerial perspective – making objects and background recede and foreground come forward. Learn how to lay down rich, intense fluid colors and techniques in blending, lifting and glazing colors. Finally, Dale will share how to create special effects without using your brush.

I-Hour Limited Color Watercolor Demo:
Hope, Alaska Landscape
Dale gives an insight into the watercolor techniques that creates a successful paintings and along with focusing on the use of transparent watercolors in a landscape scene.

Dale discusses how to start a painting, limited color palette, where you can simplify, and take liberties, and much, much more. He will share his watercolor painting tips & techniques, explaining how to gain real control in wet-in-wet and dry-on-dry blending and not overworking your painting.

Dale will help you to get to know your watercolors and give you the confidence to paint impressive work in this wonderful medium all in the comfort of your own studio.

Thanks LOLA for a great workshop. I spent the morning painting, demonstrating elements of nature, sky, water moving and still, rocks, handling trees, and different ways of creating textures.

Then the afternoon I conducted a paint-along involving some of the morning's demonstrations. Sharing techniques that allow my students to have a deeper understanding of the medium. I concentrate on composition, controlling wet-on-wet washes, drybrush, spattering, and lifting of the medium with one-on-one instruction.

The paint-along took 2.5 hours: I painted for an hour and my students accomplished their paintings in 1 and a half hours As you can see in the group photo I was quite pleased with all of the students paintings.

CLASSES STARTING UP ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13TH
In this class you will learn to implement key concepts and watercolor painting techniques that will allow you to have a deeper understanding of the medium. Week one will start with a lecture/demo followed with question and answers. Weeks two through six includes a small demo every other week and one-on-one guidance with focus on the top principles of creating a solid painting:
- How to draw
- Value relationships
- How to paint color interpretation
- Composition
- Watercolor techniques
- How to use your art supplies

As you understand these elements through painting pictures you will have better control of the medium and gain a deeper understanding of the creative process of transparent watercolor painting.

SPEND THE DAY UP NORTH HAVING FUN WITH WATERCOLOR
This year master watercolorist, Dale L Popovich IWS has been asked to come back and teach a 1-day workshop at Land O' Lakes Arts, LOLA in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin on Saturday, September 10, 2016.

You may live across the US or even across 'The Pond,' but if you are in the area Dale would enjoy sharing his knowledge in person. This is his third year at LOLA.

LOLA is dedicated to promoting the Arts in Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. LOLA will support Local Artists in fulfilling their artistic potential while also bringing Enrichment, Arts Education and Beautification to the people of the area, which contributes to the vitality of the larger community.

Northern Wisconsin is an amazing place in late summer. I personally enjoy hiking the forest with my sketchpad and photographic the many waterfalls, fishing, and yes, there's great dining, too. Why not plan a trip up north for the beauty of Vilas County.

EXPLORE PAINTING IN WATERCOLOR

About the Historical Brown County Art Gallery and Artists Association
The Brown County Art Gallery was established in 1926 by the early members of an important regional art colony who began exploring rural southern Indiana in the 1890's. These early artists had been trained in the best art schools of Europe and America and were attracted to the rolling hills of Brown County because it offered both dramatic landscapes and interesting people to serve as subjects for their work. In 1926, they formed the Brown County Art Gallery Artists Association and set up a gallery in a former grocery store donated by a patron. For over eight decades, the Gallery has managed to survive wars, depressions, recessions, fire, and relocation, making it one of the oldest galleries in the United States.
