An old road slips quietly into the woods, its worn surface marked with paw prints of animals that have traveled this way before. It feels less like a road and more like an invitation, leading deeper into the quiet of the Northwoods. Young oaks hold onto their leaves longer, offering unexpected flashes of warm color among cooler tones of the season. Farther along, an old hunting cabin waits at the end of the trail, simple and purposeful, its weathered walls carrying the quiet character of years spent in the woods.
In spring, summer, and fall, the older trees weave a generous canopy overhead, filtering sunlight into shifting patterns across the forest floor. Come winter, the leaves disappear and the canopy becomes something entirely different, a delicate lattice of bare branches layered against the sky. Yet the forest never becomes still. Even in the quietest months, squirrels leap from limb to limb, carrying a little life and movement through the sleeping woods. Follow the road far enough, and there is always something waiting to be discovered.
