AUGUST 15, 2023 – Thank you, LOLA for letting me be part of this amazing art organization.8/22/2023 On August 15th, we attended the LOLA Summer Fundraiser, and it was absolutely amazing to see the community's immense support for the arts and nature.Dale generously donated his time to live paint a beautiful picture of Little Donahue Lake, accompanied by Janet Schermeister, who used watercolor, and McCall Hocking, who used oil paint. The weather was delightful, with a clear blue sky and a pleasant breeze keeping mosquitoes away. Bob Palmer's music was one of the highlights, and Mary and Mike’s irresistible food from The Boathouse in Conover and Taco Dan's food truck was excellent. Marilee loved Dan's homemade sauce so much that she purchased a bottle. After dinner, we moved indoors for the live auction in the stunning Lowenwood Campus. The wine was flowing, and everyone was in high spirits. Numerous items were up for auction, including a framed original watercolor by Karen Lenhart, a cooking class for eight with Lynn Richie, private dinners at some of our best supper clubs, and, most unusual a tour to look for Yooperlite Rocks. The auctioneer and his wife were highly entertaining, and the auction was a great success. The three plein-air paintings were auctioned off for $475 each, and it was a fantastic night overall. The community indeed came together to support LOLA in a whopping $10,000 fundraiser auction.

Popovich will demonstrate his watercolor techniques at the next meeting of Illiana Artists Inc., set for 6:30 p.m. Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 8955 Columbia Ave.
Guests are always welcome at Illiana Artists gatherings. Popovich, a member, was second-place winner at the Illiana Artists' 15th Juried Exhibition last August at the Chesterton Art Center. An award-winning watercolorist and instructor who is passionate about capturing the raw beauty of the American landscape with the fluid stroke of a brush, Popovich has a unique perspective. Temporarily blinded at 20 for 1-1/2 years, he learned to rely on his mind’s eye to sustain him. After nine-hour brain surgery to remove a cyst on his optic nerve, he had to learn how to walk, talk and write again. With his vision restored, he discovered he could see more clearly than before, easily filtering out the visual “noise” around him to focus on a subject. His paintings began to reflect a certain purity of perception, and this “way of seeing” became the hallmark of his painting. Trained at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, he teaches at the Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago, an association of representational artists with membership by invitation only. He also has workshops, demos, and teaches weekly classes in his own studio in Highland. View his works at www.DalePopovich.com..... |
