Living in the north woods of Wisconsin, my aspirations to become a watercolor artist are driven by my surroundings. Dale Popovich has taught me how to capture what I see around me through every workshop opportunity into beautiful landscape paintings. Dale’s accomplishments as a master of watercolor show in his teaching. He can teach any budding artist from beginner on. Dale’s three-day Abstract Patterns of Nature Watercolor Workshop was wonderfully delivered. He was very organized with special projects each day. His step by step approach really helped us to understand the layering process of painting textures, in the landscape. We learned various ways of producing textures using toothbrushes, scrapping tools, paper towels & spritzing water.
Subject matter varied between water, snow, lots of trees, buildings, various grounds, and a sprinkle of flowers. He is very patient, funny, and thorough with his delivery of information. He does not worry about making a mistake, he just works it into the painting like it was supposed to be there. Many great lessons, Very enjoyable.

Will flipping your subject matter make a more interesting composition? Absolutely!
This demonstration is based on a photograph I took last autumn driving down a dirt road not far from Dillman's in the Great Northwoods of Wisconsin. What I want to convey in this demonstration is do not to make yourself a slave to the photograph. Always remember you are painting a painting and not a photograph. Allow yourself a little freedom in your creative process. I will be showing you:
• How to build your painting from background to foreground.
• Painting large areas to small areas.
• Working light to dark.
• Working more intense color at the beginning, and slowly graying down your color as you bring the painting to finish.
My Dillman’s Workshop will cover all four seasons of the Northwoods – land and water, trees and rocks, and all of nature's beautiful relationships..
