HIGHLAND | The LACORE meeting was held at the Gloria Dei (Glory to God) Church, 3711 Ridge Road, Highland, IN, 46322 where visitors are always welcome. Dale L Popovich IWS took the art league through his classical approach of watercolor painting. To a full house of members and guests coming in from Chicago and Dixon, IL he started with photo reference on his iPad and a pencil sketch on 300 lb. Arches watercolor paper. He took his one-inch brush and immediately laid down bold color washes. He explained every stroke along the way adding stories and humor throughout the demo. Over the course of an hour and a half he turned a white sheet of paper into a snow covered rural Midwest farm scene. After several minutes of question and answers Popovich’s demo was raffled. LACARE’S first official board meeting was called to order on May 18, 1971. The organization of a league for the purpose of mutual encouragement, education, and enjoyment of participation in arts and crafts grew out of this beginning. The name “LACARE”, spelled as though it were a French word, was chosen as an acronym for LAKE AND CALUMET REGION ART LEAGUE.
LACARE is an Indiana based chartered non-profit organization with a Constitution and By-Laws. LACARE’s constitution states that the object of the Art League “will be sharing of knowledge and interests of the individual and the community in artistic endeavors”. Monthly art or craft demonstrations, art or craft workshops, juried show participation, monthly newsletters, picnic, Member Appreciation luncheon, and trips to various art museums and other places of interest are offered to the membership. LACARE meets the FOURTH MONDAY of every month except December and the THIRD MONDAY in months when there is a holiday falling on the fourth Monday. Doors are open at 1:00 PM, a short business meeting at 1:30 PM, followed by an art or craft demonstration. Refreshments are served. The meetings are held at the Gloria Dei (Glory to God) Church, 3711 Ridge Road, Highland, IN, 46322. Meetings are open to visitors. Call Ann Noldin at 219-864-0593 for more information.
